HISTORY AND POLITICS FOR NON-LUNATICS
The Machiavellian “Divide and Rule”

The Machiavellian “Divide and Rule” is a frequent
and favourite accusation leveled by anti-colonialists
and anti-imperialists at their real or alleged evil oppressors. However, without
the lunatics upon whom to employ the diabolical “Divide and Rule”
policy, is it ever possible for the satanic “Divide and
Rule” strategy to succeed?

“9 May 1956: During a
demonstration for the cause of the Union of Cyprus with Greece by thousands of
Athenians at Omonoia Square, clashes occur between
demonstrators and police. The latter use firearms killing seven and
injuring 189.”
Comment by Apollomedea: We are all agreed that it
is wrong and unjust to be killed by foreigners. What
is right and proper and just is to be killed by one’s
own ethnic kind.

The titular phrase has been employed extensively by
UK academics, journalists, First World War veterans, and others to refer to the
British army of the First World War. Have any Greek
Cypriot academics, journalists, EOKA veterans, or any others ever made use of
this phrase to describe EOKA (1955-1959)? If not, is it not high
time that they start doing so? We thus see that the British have
learned a necessary lesson from their own troubled
history. Are the lunatic Greek Cypriots going to
ever learn the necessary lessons from their own troubled and still troubling
history?
The vast majority of the people of Germany rightly
blame their leader Hitler (during 1933-1945) for having destroyed
Germany. The vast majority of the Greek Cypriot people do not blame
their leader Makarios (during 1949-1977) for having
destroyed Cyprus. Why?

Concerning the provenance of the Gold Reserves of the Republic of Cyprus
(estimated at 400000000 euros), can anyone answer the following query?
How much worth of gold was either saved or spent by
the Government of (i) President Christofias, (ii) President
Papadopoulos, … (vi) President Makarios,
(vii) Governor Foot, (viii) Governor Harding, … and as far
back as there are extant documents.

British India and British Cyprus – a
(belated) comparison
Theo Theocharis, Molierou 8, Limassol

During the two or three centuries and up to 1947
India (population about 400 million in 1947) was the largest country
ruled by the British. During 1878-1960 Cyprus (population about half
a million in 1960) was one of the smallest countries ruled by
the British. But in another respect, British India and British
Cyprus were very similar. In British India about 75%
were Hindus with most of the rest being Muslim and in British Cyprus 80% were
(Greek) Orthodox Christian with most of the rest again being (Turkish) Muslim. And
although British Indian Muslims numbered about 100 million they were only a
minority in their very large country, the mere one hundred or so thousand
Turkish Muslims of British Cyprus had only 40 miles away their very powerful
mother country Turkey.
The British withdrew from India in 1947 and they
left behind a deeply divided and warring country. As a result,
during a few months in 1947-48 an unknown number between one million and two
million people were massacred and a much larger unknown number between ten
million and twenty million were expelled or had to flee from their homes.
It is noteworthy that the ethnic leaders of British
India never conducted any armed warfare against the British
rulers. (Their opposition to British rule had always been
non-violent.) Yet in British Cyprus in 1955, only
seven short years after the catastrophic events in both post-British
India and post-British Palestine, and despite the severe warnings concerning
the grave threats from nearby Turkey by the knowledgeable and wise in Cyprus,
the brazen leaders of the Greek Cypriots ordered the start of a disastrous
armed guerilla warfare against the British lasting
four long terrible years and leading inescapably to the even more horrible next
two decades resulting in many thousands (in a population of about half a
million) either being killed or maimed in battle or non-combatants massacred or
raped by never-punished war criminals.
Were the leaders of the Greek Cypriots in 1955
ignorant, were they irrational, were they foolish, were they daft, were they
stupid, were they idiots, were they crazy, were they mad to commit themselves
to such a bizarre decision? The leaders of the Greek Cypriots in
1955 were none of the above. If the reader really wants
to know the true answer to this very vexing question, the reader will have to
study the whole History Chapter of Apollomedea.
The Machiavellian “Divide and Rule” is a frequent
and favourite accusation leveled by anti-colonialists
and anti-imperialists at their alleged evil oppressors. However, without
the lunatics upon whom to employ the diabolical “Divide and Rule”
policy, is it ever possible for the satanic “Divide and
Rule” strategy to succeed?

QUESTION 7: (The most vexing question in
the whole history of Cyprus): Why?
QUESTION 8: How many professors (of
historical, political, etc sciences) or journalists
or others asked (never mind answered) all these burning questions?
The phrase “Lions Led by Donkeys” has been
employed extensively by UK academics, journalists, First World War veterans,

War. Have any Greek Cypriot academics, journalists, EOKA veterans,
or any others ever made use of this phrase to describe the EOKA struggle

CYPRUS 2013-2014 WORLD PARADOX: PART
I
Theo Theocharis, Molierou 8, Limassol
3082, Tel. No. 25386587, theotheocharis1952@gmail.com
During 2013-2014 the democratically elected
governments of both Ukraine and Egypt were overthrown by mass popular
revolts. During the same years, there also were serious but failed
popular attempts at overthrowing democratically elected governments in several
other states, notably in Turkey, Venezuela, Brazil, and Thailand.
Like in all complex human affairs, the causes of
the revolts are many and perennial, such as the autocratic and undemocratic
policies as well as the fraudulent practices by the governing
elites. Moreover, owing to the world economic crisis that began in
2007, among the additional causes that exacerbated the situation are the
failure and bankruptcy of many businesses (notably banks), and the resulting
harsh austerity measures effected by tyrannical governments.
However, apart from the huge increases in taxation
and the drastic cutbacks in salaries, pensions, and public spending generally,
in March 2013 the government of the Republic of Cyprus implemented the most
blatantly kleptocratic policy of all, namely the
so-called bail-in of the Republic’s two leading banks, ie
the confiscation (= theft) of the depositors’ money. Yet there was
no revolt, and scarcely any public protests in Cyprus. Curiously, in
the aftermath of the bail-ins, there were public demonstrations in Greece and
in Spain to oppose the bail-ins in Cyprus but none in Cyprus itself. On the
contrary, in the aftermath of the bank bail-ins in March 2013 tens of thousands
of Cypriots (in a population of less than a million) participated in or watched
the Carnival processions. All this constitutes a most curious and
puzzling paradox that cries out for resolution. Why the mass revolts
during 2013-2014 against elected governments in many countries (two of them
successful) that had not practiced bail-ins, but scarcely any
protests in Cyprus that had practiced bail-ins?
Moreover, has anyone (and specifically any
journalist, or any academic) anywhere noticed, let alone resolved, this
perplexing paradox?
CYPRUS 2013-2014 WORLD PARADOX: PART
II
In May 2016, a radio socio-political talk-show
invited the Head of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (and winner
of the 2017 Cyprus Prize for Research) and another Professor (of Genetics) at
the Institute to talk about the genetic make-up of the Cypriot
people. During the programme, the host asked the two Professors
whether the absence of any public protests in Cyprus in the aftermath of the
March 2013 bank bail-ins entailed that sheepishness is innate in the genes of
the Cypriots. The Head of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and
Genetics replied that this cannot be so because, he argued, during 1955-1959
the Greek Cypriots did revolt and conducted a (planned) violent armed struggle
against British rule. (Parenthetically on the same
topic, it may be mentioned that the Cypriots also conducted a brief (unplanned)
revolt against British rule in October 1931.)
QUESTION 1: Is the argument articulated
by the Head of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics right?
ANSWER 1: It is
definitely not. For the world events
during 2013-2014 prove without any doubt that the Greek Cypriots were (at least
during 2013-2014) the champions of the world in sheepishness.
QUESTION 2: How then are all the
perplexing events peculiar to Cyprus mentioned above to be explained?
ANSWER 2: All the information needed to
explain all these perplexing events peculiar to Cyprus may be found in: “The
‘Naked Ape’ updated” or “Mystificacy and Insignificacy: The necessary concepts with which to
comprehend the past, the present, and the future”

The two most important historical
events in the history of Cyprus
Theo Theocharis, Molierou 8, Limassol
3082, Tel. No. 25386587, theotheocharis1952@gmail.com
For the people of Cyprus, what was the most important historical event in the history of
Cyprus during the last 100 years? It was definitely not the
1955 start of the heroic and glorious armed anti-colonial liberation struggle
for faith and fatherland against the British conquerors of
Cyprus nor the 1960 inauguration of the Republic of
Cyprus. Oh, no. On the contrary, those were the true
causes of the savage ethnic wars, rapes, massacres, and ethnic cleansings of
both 1963-64 and 1974. The same was also the true cause of the
economic catastrophes of 2000 (stock exchange) and 2013 (bail-ins of banks)
when the Cyprus kleptocrats stole many tens of billions
from ordinary investors and depositors. Nor was it either the 2004
joining of the European Union or the 2008 joining of the Eurozone. Compared to the actual most important historical events, all the above pale
into insignificance.
The second most important historical event in the history of
Cyprus during the last 100 years occurred in August 1996. But it was
not the well-known killings of two Greek Cypriots (by either Turkish Cypriots
or Turkish troops) that happened then (for there have already occurred
thousands of killings of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots during
1955-1959 and 1963-1974). The first killing in August 1996 happened
during a (foolishly planned and executed) march of (mostly) Greek Cypriots
towards Turkish occupied Famagusta. The second killing happened
during clashes after the burial of the first victim. Soon afterward,
on the same day, the then Orthodox Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostom the First
appeared in front of the television cameras and called for a halt of the
disturbances so that there will be, in his own words, “no more orphans and no
more grieving mothers”. With this deed, did the Archbishop conduct
himself correctly? Well, with over 500 Orthodox churches looted and
under Turkish occupation, based on precedent the Archbishop ought to have been
inciting, and blessing, an armed liberation struggle instead of urging the
opposite (and in this lies the great importance of this event), and for this
reason, as soon as he uttered the “no more orphans and no more grieving
mothers” he ought to have been hung on the spot for high treason.
The huge importance of Chrysostom’s handling of the
crisis in August 1996 will be discerned when one considers the very comparable
events of Cyprus 1955-1959. The then Orthodox Archbishop of Cyprus Makarios the Third planned secretly and led secretly the
violent armed EOKA revolt against British rule, when (unlike post-1974) there
was not one looted Orthodox church and also not oneCypriot had
been expelled from their home and their property stolen by the British
rulers. Moreover, the EOKA revolt ended not when Archbishop Makarios had called for a halt of the EOKA revolt so that
there will be “no more orphans and no more grieving mothers” (significantly,
this never happened) but after EOKA was crushed by the might of the British
army, and Archbishop Makarios was forced to accept
the settlement imposed by the British. Therefore, the
absolutely top most important historical event in the history of
Cyprus during the last 100 years was a non-event that occurred
(or rather if the reader likes did not occur) during 1955-1959
and as a result, during 1955-1996, the lives of several thousands of Greek
Cypriots (in addition to more thousands of Turkish Cypriots, Turks, Greeks,
British, plus several UN peacekeepers) were sacrificed chiefly for the greater
glory of Archbishop Makarios.
It transpires that the enormous importance of the
two related (conjugate? complementary?) most important historical events in the
history of Cyprus lies in the fact that they expose in a most stark manner the
shameful hypocricy of the leaders of
Cyprus: When it suits their interests, they declare the humanitarian
“no more orphans and no more grieving mothers”. But when (for
example during 1955-1959 and again during 1963-1974) the interests of the
leaders of Cyprus require the sacrificing of lives for their own greater glory,
they never hesitate to bring about more and more thousands of both orphans and
grieving mothers.

The most pleasant historical event in
the history of Cyprus
Theo Theocharis, Molierou 8, Limassol
3082, Tel. No. 25386587, theotheocharis1952@gmail.com
For the people of Cyprus, what was the most pleasant historical
event in the history of Cyprus during the last 100 years?
It was definitely not the 1960
inauguration of the Republic of Cyprus. Oh, no. On the
contrary, that was the true cause of the savage ethnic wars, rapes, massacres,
and ethnic cleansings of both 1963-64 and 1974. The same was also
the true cause of the economic catastrophes of 2000 (stock exchange) and 2013
(bail-ins of banks) when the Cyprus kleptocrats stole
billions from ordinary investors and depositors. Nor was it either
the 2004 joining of the European Union or the 2008 joining of the
Eurozone. Compared to the actual most pleasant
historical event, these are small beer indeed. With hindsight, it is
arguable these 2004 and 2008 events must not be regarded as pleasant at all because
they actually both accelerated the collapse of the Cyprus economy and impeded
the recovery.
The truly most pleasant historical
event in the history of Cyprus during the last 100 years did occur in 2008, but
it was not the coming of the euro. In fact the event in question
curiously did not occur within the land of Cyprus itself, but in another
country a long way away when the stupid little hare Georgia attacked the
fearsome bear Russia and naturally suffered a humiliating defeat. This
means that the tiny mouse Cyprus that assaulted both the mighty lion Britain
and the unforgiving grey wolf Turkey is not the only stupid entity in the
world, but that there are other lunatics in this universe, and surely for
Cyprus this is a very pleasant news indeed.
J’ accuse the Cyprus mass media of a very
serious dereliction of duty in that they failed to explain the sheer
pleasantness of this jolly good news to the long suffering populace of Cyprus,
so as to alleviate the pain and misery that was repeatedly inflicted on them
over may decades by their own warlords and kleptocrats.
However, it is noteworthy that instead of bringing
the Greek Cypriots to their senses the above arguments elicit anger, even fury,
to many of them. How then ought a serious person to respond to such
idiots? Shall we pity them, or shall we curse them? Well,
the feelings of pity must be directed to the victims of their
lunatic mentality that caused the appalling catastrophes, whereas it is the
lunatics themselves that must be despised, cursed, and, naturally, their sick
mind-set fought against.
Zeno the Stoic International Airport
Theo Theocharis, Molierou 8, Limassol
3082, Tel. No. 25386587, theotheocharis1952@gmail.com
The news report “Larnaca
listed among Europe’s 16 oldest cities” (Cyprus Mail, 05/03/2016, p.5)
plus the words “stoic” and “stoicism” that feature in Richard Godwin’s book
review article in Living(07/02/2016, p.25) have prompted me to
write what follows:
Modern day Larnaca sits
on the ancient city of Kition dating from 1300BC
(Europe’s 9th oldest). Zeno of Kition (336-264 BC) is undoubtedly the worldwide best
known, most important, and most influential person ever born in
Cyprus. Zeno studied in Athens (Europe’s 2nd oldest) and taught philosophy at the stoa (hence “stoic” and “stoicism”), thus contributing
substantially to the cultural glory of Athens.
Obviously Zeno was born a very few kilometres away
from (if not actually on the grounds of) what is today the major airport of the
Republic of Cyprus, which Larnaca airport the present
DISY government, continuing the shameful practice
of favouring their own, recently named after the founder of DISY, the late Glafcos Clerides (who was a run
of the mill President of the banana Republic of Cyprus), whom nevertheless
scarcely anyone will remember in a few decades. Significantly, Clerides presided over the S-300 missile debacle, the stock
exchange scandal, and had in his cabinet both the only two former ministers who
have been convicted and imprisoned for having committed financial fraud.
The usual practice in Italy is to name their
airports not after their warlords but after their greatest true heroes who are
also heroes of the whole world, ie scientists,
inventors, artists, philosophers, eg da Vinci,
Galilei, Marconi, etc. I propose that when, if ever, we have a
government that discontinues the discredited practice of favouring their own,
to follow the sound practice of Italy and name our major airport after our
greatest hero Zeno, who is also a hero to the whole world, thus Zeno
the Stoic International Airport.
