Professor
Lewin (MIT) discussing Displacement Current.
Watch the
movie . Between 3 minutes 20 and 3 minutes 25 into the movie Lewin draws electric current travelling across the surface
of the capacitor plate.
According to Heaviside and everyone who followed
him, Maxwell invented displacement current because the electric current, or
charge, entering the capacitor immediately yearned to jump across the space
between the capacitor plates.
For 150 years nobody noticed that the electric
current entering the capacitor first had to spread out across the plate, as
drawn by Lewin. When approached, Lewin
refuses to discuss this sideways current, although it is said on the www that
he always answers emails.
This sideways electric current undermines the story
about the origin of displacement current, and also the justification for the
invention of displacement current.
