Dear Ivor:
I think you could start from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_Excellence_Framework and maybe some of the “references”
cited in that article.
Very much enjoyed your talk here, and the wonderful storied during the dinner.
Cheers, Fei

Dear Ivor
Fei (more formally Dr Fei Xia) is my closest
(since 1996) research associate.
You may address your questions to him directly. His email is Fei.Xia@ncl.ac.uk

Dear Dr. Fei Xia,
You will understand that my visit to Newcastle was very stressful,
culminating in the excellent lecture you gave at our final dinner. Your
information and insights filled a gap in my research, and I very much need it.
I know you said that China was escaping from a certain grip which
England was now falling into, but I forget the details. Perhaps it was the
pressure to conform.
I am not sure how much you said about “publish or perish”, linking
publication with continued government funding for research. This is the
information which I very much need. Since I am outside the academic
steeplechase, I have no other way to get hold of these insights. T S Kuhn
omitted three key factors in his book, and this was one of them.
I have written and even published a great deal in this field, but lack
your knowledge.
I am not sure whether you were at the 9 October seminar.
