Caveat.
It was unfortunate that my GP recommended a driving
test when he must have known that I had suffered no brain damage from my terrible medical experience.
Most people who have never had a driving lesson but
have driven for fifty years would fail a driving test, as any driving
instructor will tell you. I was not allowed instruction or practise for years
by Dr. JJG Hanley of the DVLA. However, when my legal action against the DVLA
loomed, the DVLA allowed me to have driving instruction. However, Hanley should
know that I would then be instructed in how to pass a test, not in how to drive
safely.
Having never had a crash in fifty years, including
driving safely at home and abroad for a year after hospitalisation, my driving
should never have been in doubt. As to my being able to pass a test, that is
another matter. The fact remains that the last time I passed a driving test in
the UK or the USA was 1964. I now have my driving licence back.
