IEE

Dear John,

I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qWSVGjhpfI&feature=youtu.be deeply humiliating and upsetting.

(Go to 11 minutes. http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x18j51.pdf ) This will also be your reaction, as an FIET of many decades standing. The correct description is a word I have never used before; "bathos". I will not make specific comment, but just say you must be very unhappy that after you, a graduate Electrical engineer, paid membership for so many decades it has descended into what could stay as is and be seen as satire.

Your role has not been benign. You have for decades shot at the messenger, Ivor Catt, largely avoiding the message, which is that the (was) Institution of Electrical Engineers is incapable of communicating on matters electrical, but is taking in membership fees on false pretences from electrical engineers.

As you said today, the IEE (as was) has a duty to deal with a request for clarification of fundamental theory, the Question called cattq   http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/cattq.htm dealt with insultingly by the IEE's B Lago http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/9_review.htm "Catt's belief in his own work is clearly sincere, but this reviewer, after lengthy and careful consideration, can find virtually nothing of value in this book. B. LAGO"

The CEO of the IEE assigned the matter to Professor Secker, who excluded himself, claiming lack of expertise.   http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/28anom.htm . The CEO then refused to replace Secker. That is, no one can be reached by the IEE who will clarify fundamental theory. (However, for 50 years the IEE has refused to publish anything by Catt on these fundamentals.

http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/x18j1.htm A way out of this impasse would be for the IET to invite Catt to write a paper for publication by the IET.)

This is in spite of the now "fulsome praise" for Catt's work on the subject in the Royal Society journal. http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/yak.htm

In her inaugural speech, the new IEE President said that Heaviside was part of the fine IEE tradition with his work on the transmission line.

The Catt Question asks for clarification of the Heaviside work on transmission lines.

The IEE tried hard to get Heaviside to come up to London to receive the first Faraday Medal, coined especially for him. Recently the IEE gave the Faraday Medal to Pepper, who wrote nonsense on cattq in 1993 and has since been incommunicado.

http://www.ivorcatt.co.uk/2812.htm

I ask you to design a way to get the IEE to address matters electrical - communicate coherently on cattq. Any approach by me would be then described by you as the wrong approach.

Ivor Catt.   10.10.2020
