TEM Wave and the Photon, and Nostradamus

'If any one of them can explain it,' said Alice, .... 'I'll give him sixpence. I don't believe there's an atom of meaning in it.'

'If there's no meaning in it,' said the King, 'that saves a world of trouble, you know, as we needn't try to find any. And yet I don't know, .... I seem to see some meaning in them, after all.'

- Tombe's adventures in Wonderland: first published 1865,

Maxwell died in 1879 [Note 1]. The first formulation of the TEM Wave (Figures 4, 5) is by Oliver Heaviside in 1885, after Maxwell's death. Maxwell did not have the concept of the TEM Wave .

Poynting was aged about 27 years when Maxwell died. He formulated the "Poynting Vector" in 1884, five years after Maxwell's death and 11 years after Maxwell published "A Treatise on Electricity and Magnetism". Anyway, I have published elsewhere ( "The Heaviside Signal" ) that Poynting did not have the concept of the TEM Wave, because he did not know its velocity of propagation. The TEM Wave ["Energy Current"] should be credited to Heaviside.

Proof that Poynting did not know the velocity of a TEM Wave is that he had an angle which was not 90 degrees between the electric and the magnetic field. Shades of things like "group velocity".

See; "The Heaviside Signal" ; "He definitely did not know that E is always perpendicular to H, and that the x in ExH means simply multiplication. (He had a term sin(theta) for the angle between them.) Poynting was writing before the general agreement that light is electromagnetic, and so he did not know that this Poynting energy always moved forward (in the third dimension) at a constant speed, 1/ [./(me)], the velocity of light in the medium."

We see the original development of the concept of "Energy Current" in 1885 in Heaviside's "Electrical Papers vol. 1". A little earlier in those papers, he uses the term "energy current" in a general way, to describe the energy being forced along inside the wire, like water through a pipe. However, the new idea of the TEM Wave, or "Energy Current", or "Heaviside Signal" as christened by me, is first formulated in 1885, six years after Maxwell's death. [Also see Note 2, below.]

O Heaviside, "Electrical Papers vol. 1", p437. [Reprinted from "The Electrician, 1885.]; "Had we not better give up the idea that energy is transmitted through the wire altogether? That is the plain course. .... The transmission takes place entireley through the dielectric ...."

Then go to page 438 for the historic statement; "We reverse this ; the current in the wire is set up by the energy transmitted through the medium around it .... ". This is the statement of what I have christened "Theory H", made by Heaviside in 1885, when Maxwell was six years dead.

Nostradamus (December 14, 1503 – July 2, 1566), Latinized name of Michel de Nostredame, was one of the world's most famous authors of prophecies. He is best known for his book Les Propheties, the first edition of which appeared in 1555.

Nostradamus
...Encores mon filz que j'aye inseré le nom de prophete, je ne me veux atribuer tiltre de si haulte sublimite...
Preface to César, 1555 Since the publication of this book, which has rarely been out of print since his death and has always been hugely popular across the world, Nostradamus has attracted an almost cult following. His many enthusiasts, to say nothing of the popular press, credit him with predicting numerous major world events. In contrast, most of the academic sources listed below maintain that the associations made between world events and Nostradamus' quatrains are largely the result of misinterpretations or mistranslations (sometimes deliberate) or else are so tenuous as to render them useless as evidence of any genuine predictive power. Moreover, none of the sources listed offers any evidence that anyone has ever succeeded in interpreting any of Nostradamus' quatrains specifically enough to allow a clear identification of any event in advance. [1]

Nevertheless, interest in the work of this prominent figure of the French Renaissance is still considerable, especially in the media and in popular culture, and the prophecies have in some cases been assimilated to the results of applying the alleged Bible Code, as well as to other purported prophetic works.

The photon appeared on the scene decades after Heaviside (not Maxwell) formulated Maxwell's Equations.

" Still shrouded in mystery ; The photon in 1925"

" The history of the photon in the 20th century started in 1901 with theformula by Planck for radiation of a black body .... " - L.B. Okun

Maxwell reformulation and mathenmatics
"Heaviside simplified and made useful for the sciences the original Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism. This innovation from the reformulation of Maxwell's original equations gives the four vector equations known today. Heaviside developed the Heaviside step function, which he used to model the flow of current in an electric circuit. Heaviside developed vectors (and vector calculus). Heaviside formed the operator method for linear differential equations."

Note 1 How could Professor Poynting get the power right in his "Poynting Vector" while not knowing the velocity of propagation of the energy? Although I have not consulted his original paper for some decades, this fact is probably buried in the unnoticed curiosity in electromagnetism; that electric field and magnetic field both have two terms - E, D, B, H. Buried inside these terms lies permittivity and permeability, and also Zo and the velocity of a TEM Wave. When Poynting arrives at the destination, or load, he can correctly compute the power by multiplying A by V to get Watts. The velocity of the incoming energy is delivered by fortunate choice from among E, D, B, D when generating A and V and Zo. - Ivor Catt 27.6.06

Note 2 Maxwell biography

"J.G. Crowther writes in a biography of Maxwell: 'During the last years of his life, his wife was an invalid. He nursed her personally with the most assiduous care…. When the earlier symptoms of his own fatal disease became evident to himself, he told no one of them for a long time. As he grew worse and suffered severe pain he never complained, except that he would not be able to continue to nurse his sick wife.'"
